Ms. Carrie Mae Bender was born January 8, 1957 to Jessie Mae Crenshaw and Carl Lawrence, Sr. of Lowndes County, Alabama. Carrie Mae confessed Christ at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church and later joined I Found Him Apostolic Holiness Church. In the latter part of life, she moved her membership to Whosoever Will Apostolic Holiness Church where she served faithfully.
On Thursday, December 17, 2020, surrounded by her family, she peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Carrie Mae received her education from Central High School in Hayneville, Alabama. She later attended Wallace Community College in Selma, where she received her degree in Nursing.
Carrie leaves to cherish her moving memory to her two sons, Corey (Christine) Washington of Auburn, Alabama and Andrew (Tiffany) Washington of Selma, Alabama; three sisters: Gwendolyn Hunter and Shirley Crenshaw of Selma, Alabama and Jamie Lawrence of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, the late Amos Crenshaw; stepmother, Ann Lawrence of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Carl (Lynette) Lawrence of Montgomery, Alabama; five grandchildren: Keyondria Coleman, De’Andre Washington, Shaquita (Roosevelt) Jones, Katelin Carter, Sommer Fitzpatrick; six nieces: Eumkeea Bender, Shantella Crenshaw, Jasmine Bender, Londyn Lawrence, Canedra, JaNiya and Daezhane Smith; five nephews: Roderick (Angela) Crenshaw, Quentin Lawrence, James III, Jamir Madrey, and Leo Crenshaw, who preceded her death; one great-grandchild, Roland Jones; two grandmothers: Callie Mae Bender and Amy Lawrence, who also preceded her in death; and her grandfather, the late Willie James Lawrence and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a special friend, Debra Blockton and many more.
Carrie was a quintessential family woman. She loved serving the Lord and spending time with her family and friends.
