Lenda E McElwee

Lenda Ella Harriet Brinckmann McElwee 
(April 27, 1952 - July 19, 2023)

Lenda died from complications of cancer at Bethany House Hospice facility in Auburn, Alabama on July 19, 2023. She is survived by her twin brother, Jan Brinckmann; two daughters, Shellie McElwee Cherry and Tina McElwee Roberts (Josh); grandchildren, Tristan Jinright, Daniel Jinright, Victoria Tidwell, Sloane Cherry, Roman Tidwell, as well as Grace, Aidan, Liam and Ewan Roberts; her former spouse of 33 years, Dan McElwee; and several nephews and nieces. Lenda was preceded in death by her father (Wolfe Brinckmann), mother (Else Thomsen), sister (Inger Jørgensen), and brother (Johnny Brinckmann).

Lenda loved to tell everyone about the place she grew up, Denmark. If you came to see her, she would show you items she had collected from Denmark. She was fascinated with other cultures and parts of the world. Lenda was also a lover of all animals and adored her plants. Her kindness and compassion towards others was reflected throughout her life. Lenda had a heart for those who were suffering and needed help. 
Most of all, she loved her family (especially those grandchildren!).

Lenda wanted a small, casual get together/celebration rather than a formal service. We will be gathering at Shellie’s house to celebrate Momma’s life. We hope our family and close friends can join us as we honor her.
